A Mobility Scooter Light Enough to Lift Into the Trunk by Yourself

The Feather Scooter is a four-wheel folding mobility scooter that weighs 37 pounds without its battery, and about 41 pounds with it. Most folding travel scooters weigh 55 to 65 pounds, and the ones that come apart into pieces still leave you lifting a 30-pound base. The Feather folds in one piece, in seconds, and most adults can lift it into a trunk, a back seat, or an SUV on their own.

It comes from Feather Mobility, the company behind the 13.5-pound Feather Chair and the 33-pound Feather Power Chair, and it follows the same idea: strip out every ounce that is not doing a job, keep what matters, and make it simple to live with. You get a removable lithium battery, a 5 mph top speed, flat-free tires, electromagnetic brakes, an LED headlight, a front basket, and a frame that folds without tools and without taking anything apart.

Below you will find who this scooter suits best, how it folds and drives, what the battery and range mean in real use, and the full specifications so you can decide with confidence.

Who the Feather Scooter Is Best For

  • Riders who want a scooter they can load into the car themselves, without a lift or a helper
  • Couples and families where the person doing the lifting has a bad back, a bad shoulder, or simply is not strong
  • Travelers, cruise passengers, and frequent flyers who want a scooter that folds small and runs on a removable, airline-compliant lithium battery
  • People in apartments, condos, and smaller homes where the scooter has to park in a closet or a corner
  • Anyone who mostly rides on sidewalks, in stores, through airports, and indoors, and wants a lighter scooter for those trips

If you weigh more than 265 pounds, need a seat wider than 15 inches, ride long distances between charges, or spend a lot of time on grass, gravel, or steep hills, a heavier-duty scooter will serve you better. We are glad to help you compare.

Folds in One Piece, in Seconds, With No Tools

Pull the fold knob and lower the seatback. Loosen the tiller knob and fold the tiller down over the seat. That is the whole procedure. The scooter closes to 22 inches wide, 37.5 inches long, and 18 inches tall, flat enough to lie in a trunk or stand on end in a closet. A built-in carry handle and rear tip wheels let you roll it along like a suitcase instead of carrying it.

Unfolding takes less than a minute, and the scooter arrives fully assembled, so there is nothing to put together on day one.

Removable Lithium Battery, Airline Compliant

The 25.2-volt, 10 Ah lithium battery weighs about 4 pounds and lifts off the scooter, so you can charge it inside at an outlet while the scooter stays in the car or garage. An automatic charger is included; it shuts off when the battery is full. Feather recommends a full charge after each day of use and at least a weekly charge when the scooter is sitting idle.

A full charge gives you up to 7.5 miles. Real-world range depends on your weight, hills, temperature, and how often you stop and start, so plan on less for a hilly route or a cold day. For a day of errands, an appointment, a store, and a meal out, that is usually plenty. If you cover more ground than that in a day, ask us about a spare battery.

Flying with the Feather Scooter. At 262 watt-hours, the battery falls under the 300 Wh limit most airlines apply to mobility-device lithium batteries, and Feather states the scooter is airline compliant with the original battery. Airlines set their own rules, so call your airline before you fly and tell them the battery's watt-hour rating. Never substitute a non-Feather battery for air travel.

Simple to Drive, Stops Itself

A thumb-and-finger throttle lever on the tiller moves you forward or back, and a dial sets the top speed anywhere up to 5 mph, a brisk walking pace. A key switch turns the scooter on, a battery gauge shows your charge, and a horn button is right at your thumb. An LED headlight on the tiller stem lights the way after dark. The tiller angle adjusts to your reach and folds down for storage.

A 120-watt brushless motor drives the rear wheels through a differential, which keeps both rear wheels pulling evenly through turns. Electromagnetic brakes hold the scooter the moment you release the throttle, including on a slope; there is nothing to squeeze or remember. Rear anti-tippers add a margin of safety on ramps and curb cuts.

Four wheels give a stable, planted ride. The trade-off is a 61-inch turning radius, wider than a three-wheel scooter, so plan on backing up in a tight hallway or a crowded aisle.

Comfort and Everyday Use

The seat is 15 inches wide and 14 inches deep, with a cushioned seat and back and a seat-to-floor height of about 20 inches, a comfortable height for most adults to sit down and stand up. Flip-back armrests get out of the way for transfers, and a zippered pocket on the seatback holds a phone, keys, and a wallet. A wire basket under the seat carries a small bag or a few groceries. Foam-filled tires, 6 inches in front and 10 inches in back, never go flat and never need air. Three inches of ground clearance clears thresholds, sidewalk joints, and most door sills.

What the Feather Scooter Is Not Built For

Honest expectations make for happy owners. This is a light, compact scooter, and some trade-offs come with that:

  • Terrain. It is designed for sidewalks, paved paths, stores, airports, and indoors. Grass, gravel, sand, mud, and snow are not recommended.
  • Hills. The rated climbing angle is 8 degrees. Go straight up and down ramps and slopes, never sideways, and slow down before descending.
  • Capacity. The limit is 265 pounds including anything you carry.
  • Riding in a vehicle. Never sit on the scooter while a vehicle is moving. Fold it, secure it, and ride in a vehicle seat.
  • Weather. Avoid rain, snow, and salt spray. If the scooter gets wet, dry it thoroughly before storing.

Why We Chose This Product

The number one reason a travel scooter ends up in the garage instead of in the car is weight. Even the scooters that break down into pieces leave someone lifting a 30-pound base over a bumper. At 37 pounds in one piece, the Feather Scooter is light enough that the person who rides it can usually load it, and that changes how often it gets used.

We also like that Feather Mobility grew out of selling wheelchairs before building them. Their documentation is clear, the design has nothing fussy about it, and the scooter arrives assembled and ready to ride. For riders who mostly need a scooter for errands, appointments, travel, and getting out of the house, we think it is one of the most practical lightweight scooters you can buy.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the Feather Scooter weigh, and can one person lift it into a car?

The Feather Scooter weighs 37 pounds without the battery and about 41 pounds with it. It folds in one piece with no tools, and most adults can lift it into a trunk, back seat, or SUV on their own.

Can I take the Feather Scooter on an airplane?

Yes. Its removable 25.2V lithium battery is 262 watt-hours, under the 300 Wh limit most airlines apply to mobility devices, and Feather states the scooter is airline compliant with the original battery. Always confirm with your airline before you fly, and never substitute a non-Feather battery for air travel.

How far does the Feather Scooter go on a charge, and how fast?

A full charge gives up to 7.5 miles at a top speed of 5 mph. Real-world range is lower on hills, in cold weather, or with a heavier rider, so plan for errands and day trips rather than long-distance travel. A spare battery is available if you need more.

Can the Feather Scooter go up hills or on grass?

It is rated for slopes up to 8 degrees and is designed for sidewalks, paved paths, stores, airports, and indoor use. Grass, gravel, sand, and steep hills are not recommended with its 3-inch ground clearance.

What is the weight capacity and seat size of the Feather Scooter?

It supports riders up to 265 pounds including anything carried. The seat is 15 inches wide and 14 inches deep, about 20 inches off the floor, with flip-back armrests for easier transfers.

Does the Feather Scooter come assembled, and how does it fold?

It arrives fully assembled and ready to ride. To fold, pull the fold knob and lower the seatback, then loosen the tiller knob and fold the tiller down over the seat. It closes to 22 by 37.5 by 18 inches in under a minute, with no tools.
