Product Details
The Universal Padded Highback Sling is a full-body patient lift sling designed to provide enhanced comfort, stability, and support during a wide range of everyday transfer situations. With a highback design and integrated padding, this sling is well-suited for users who require additional support through the back, thighs, and head during transfers between beds, wheelchairs, commodes, and other seated or reclined positions.
At Independent Living Superstore, we focus on selecting equipment that improves both user comfort and caregiver efficiency. This padded highback sling stands out for its ability to accommodate sensitive users while also offering added positioning control through its mid-point strap for lateral transfers.
Best For
- Full-body transfers (bed, wheelchair, commode, shower chair)
- Users with limited mobility or reduced weight-bearing ability
- Individuals requiring head and neck support
- Patients with sensitive skin needing added cushioning
- Lateral transfers where a more horizontal positioning is required
How to Choose Your Size
This sling is sized primarily by patient body weight. Start with the weight ranges below, then use height and build to fine-tune your choice.
| Size | Patient Weight Range |
|---|---|
| Small | 75 – 150 lbs |
| Medium | 120 – 200 lbs |
| Large | 180 – 300 lbs |
| X-Large | 275 – 450 lbs |
| XX-Large | 430 – 615 lbs |
Between sizes? The ranges overlap on purpose. If the user is tall or has a long torso, size up so the back panel fully supports the head and shoulders. If the user is petite or slight for their weight, size down — a snug, well-contoured fit is safer and more comfortable than a roomy sling that bunches or lets the user slide toward the leg openings.
Checking the fit: With the user seated in the sling, the bottom edge should sit at the tailbone, the leg sections should cradle the thighs without cutting in, and the highback panel should support the head and neck.
Match the Sling to Your Lift
The safe working load of your transfer setup is always the lower of your lift’s rating and your sling’s rating. This padded highback sling is designed for Med-Mizer’s Med-Riser patient lifts — before ordering, confirm which model you own:
- Med-Riser MR600: the lift this sling is designed for — pairs with Small through XX-Large for users up to the lift’s 600 lb capacity.
- Med-Riser 450 (folding lift): pairs with Small through X-Large. The lift’s 450 lb capacity means the XX-Large sling is not appropriate for this lift.
Not sure which size to order? Call us at (844) 795-2930 before you buy. For hygiene reasons, slings can be difficult to return once opened — a two-minute conversation ensures you get the right size the first time.
Maneuverability / Placement
This sling is designed for flexibility across multiple care settings, allowing caregivers to safely reposition and transfer individuals with improved control. The inclusion of a mid-point strap enables a more horizontal positioning, making lateral transfers more manageable in environments where repositioning across surfaces is required.
Support / Performance
The highback structure provides full-body support, including the head and neck, making it appropriate for individuals with varying levels of upper body control. Its design promotes balanced weight distribution during lifts while maintaining secure positioning throughout the transfer process. Multiple strap loop positions let caregivers adjust posture within a correctly sized sling: shorter loops create a more upright seated position, while longer loops allow a semi-reclined or reclined position for users who need it.
Comfort / Usability
Constructed from padded fabric with quilted foam cushioning in the leg sections, this sling is optimized for users who require additional softness and pressure distribution. The material is especially beneficial for individuals with sensitive skin or those who may experience discomfort with standard sling fabrics.
Design & Convenience
The padded construction enhances overall user comfort while maintaining durability for repeated use. The integrated mid-point strap adds versatility by allowing caregivers to adjust positioning for specific transfer needs, including more horizontal alignment when required.
