Chariot IV XTC K4 Lightweight Wheelchair – The Most Adjustable Chair in the Chariot Line

The Chariot IV XTC is Proactive Medical's top K4 manual wheelchair. It takes everything on the Chariot IV and adds the adjustments that let a therapist fit the chair to the person: a detachable backrest that adjusts in both height (17"–19") and angle (5°–20°), built-in seat rail extensions, and adjustable anti-tippers. It is also the only Chariot available in a 22" seat, rated to 350 lb.

At 34–35 lb without footrests, with quick-release composite mag wheels and a dual axle for 19.5" or 17.5" seat height, it stays easy to lift and load. Flip-back desk arms adjust from 10" to 14". Choose 16", 18", 20", or 22" wide, with swing-away footrests or elevating legrests.

Which Chariot Is Right?

The Chariot IV is the step below: same K4 class and quick-release wheels, three seat heights, but a fixed-angle back, spoke wheels, and 16"–20" only. Why the Details Matter

Angle-adjustable back. A back that tilts even 10° past vertical opens the hip angle and takes pressure off the tailbone for users who sit all day. On most chairs that means a separate reclining model; here it's a bolt adjustment on the back canes.

Detachable back. Pull two pins and the backrest comes off, which folds the chair flatter and lighter for a car trunk or a closet.

Mag wheels. Composite mag wheels never need truing and don't collect grime between spokes. With quick-release hubs they come off with a thumb press, taking about 5 lb each with them.

Adjustable anti-tippers. Set them low for an active user who pops over curbs, or close to the ground for someone new to a wheelchair. They swing up out of the way for steps and thresholds.

Good to Know Before You Buy

• Measure hip width seated, then add about 2" for the seat width. Overall width runs 7"–8" more than the seat; a 22" seat is a 29" chair, so check doorways.
• Desk arms only. They are shorter at the front so the chair pulls under a table. They flip back and lift off for side transfers.
• Set it up once. Back angle and height, axle position, caster angle, arm height, seat depth, and anti-tipper height all adjust with basic tools. Have a therapist set it, then leave it.
• Elevating legrests add weight and length when raised; choose them only if a leg needs to be kept up.
• Cushion not included. Most daily users add a seat cushion; see our wheelchair cushions.

Warranty

Proactive Medical covers the Chariot IV XTC side frames and cross braces with a limited lifetime warranty and other components for 3 years against defects in materials and workmanship. Upholstery, tires, and other wear parts, and damage from misuse or unauthorized repair, are not covered.
