Chariot IV XTC-RC Reclining Wheelchair – Full Recline Without the Full Weight

The Chariot IV XTC-RC is the reclining version of Proactive Medical's top K4 wheelchair. The back reclines from upright to flat (90°–180°) on a hydraulic mechanism a caregiver controls from behind, and a detachable padded headrest supports the head at every angle. It comes with elevating legrests, so the whole body can be laid out for pressure relief, a rest, or a nap without a transfer back to bed.

Most reclining wheelchairs weigh 55–60 lb. This one is 47–51 lb, thanks to composite mag wheels and the XTC frame. The rear wheels are set back so the chair can't tip when reclined, a spreader bar doubles as the push handle, and a dual axle gives 19.5" or 17.5" seat height. Choose 16", 18", or 20" wide with flip-back desk or full-length arms.

Limited lifetime warranty on the frame. Medicare code K0004 with E1226 (recline) and K0195 (elevating legrests).

XTC-RC or Chariot-RC?

We carry two reclining Chariots. This XTC-RC is the lighter, K4-class chair with mag wheels and a lifetime frame warranty, in 16"–20" seats rated to 300 lb. The Chariot-RC is the heavier steel chair (58–62 lb) that goes up to 24" wide and 500 lb and costs about a third less. Why the Details Matter

Hydraulic recline. Squeeze the levers on the push handles and the back lowers under control, no sudden drops. It stops anywhere between upright and flat, so a slight 110° recline for TV and a full 180° for a rest are both a squeeze away.

Set-back rear wheels. When a back reclines, the user's weight moves behind the axle. Moving the wheels rearward keeps the chair planted. The trade-off is a longer chair that turns in a wider circle; measure hallways and bathroom doors.

Spreader bar. The bar across the back canes stiffens the frame and gives the caregiver a single handle to steer with one hand while the other steadies the user.

Good to Know Before You Buy

• Measure hip width seated, then add about 2" for the seat width. Overall width is about 8" more than the seat; check doorways.
• It is a long chair. Set-back wheels plus raised legrests mean more length than a standard chair, especially reclined. Measure the turning space in bathrooms and hallways.
• Recline is caregiver operated. The levers are on the push handles behind the user.
• Desk or full arms. Desk arms pull under a table; full-length arms give more support when reclined and more to push on when standing.

Warranty

Proactive Medical covers the Chariot IV XTC-RC side frames and cross braces with a limited lifetime warranty and other components for 3 years against defects in materials and workmanship. Upholstery, tires, and other wear parts, and damage from misuse or unauthorized modification, are not covered.
