These are the half-length side rails that ship with the Protekt Akra Bariatric bed, sold as a pair (model BP-HRBA) for a replacement, a spare set, or a second pair on a bed that was ordered without them. They fit all three Akra Bariatric widths, 42", 48", and 54", and are built to Proactive Medical's FDA and ASTM entrapment guidelines.

Half-length rails sit at the head end of the bed, giving a firm hand-hold for turning, sitting up, and getting in and out, while leaving the foot end open for transfers and caregiver access. They raise and lock in one motion and drop out of the way when you need them to.

Why the Details Matter

Made for this bed. Bed rails are not interchangeable between frames. These mount to the Akra Bariatric frame at the factory points, so they sit at the right height and gap for the bed's deck and mattress.

Half, not full. Half-length rails give support where people reach for it, at the shoulders and hips, while leaving the lower bed open. For most home users that is safer and more convenient than a full rail; the FDA cautions that full rails can increase entrapment risk and the sense of restraint.

Entrapment guidelines. Rail spacing and gaps follow FDA Hospital Bed Safety Workgroup and ASTM guidance. Pair them with a mattress sized for the bed, such as the Protekt 600 Bariatric mattress, so the gap between mattress and rail stays within limits.
