Protekt Aluminum Rollator – The 13 lb Rollator That Fits in Any Trunk

The Protekt Aluminum Rollator is Proactive Medical's lightweight four-wheel walker: a 13 lb aluminum frame with a padded flip-up seat, a removable curved backrest, loop-style locking hand brakes, and a zippered pouch under the seat. It folds flat with one pull on the built-in strap and stands on its own when folded.

Handle height adjusts from 31" to 36.5" to fit users from roughly 5'0" to 6'2". The 6" soft-grip wheels roll quietly on indoor floors and handle sidewalks and paved paths outdoors. Rated to 300 lb. Choose blue or black.

Limited lifetime warranty on the frame.

Which Protekt Rollator Is Right?

Proactive makes four Protekt rollators and the differences are simple. The Aluminum is the lightest at 13 lb and rated to 300 lb; pick it if the user lifts it into a car. The Steel is 17 lb, rated to 350 lb, and costs less; pick it for home use and a sturdier feel. The Steel Knock-Down is the same chair shipped in a smaller carton that you assemble without tools. The Bariatric is wider and taller with 8" wheels and a 500 lb rating.

Why the Details Matter

Why aluminum. Four pounds doesn't sound like much until you lift a rollator into a trunk twice a day or carry it up a porch step. At 13 lb this is one of the lightest full-size rollators made, and it still has the padded seat, backrest, and pouch of heavier models.

Set the handle height right. Stand upright in walking shoes with arms hanging naturally; the hand grips should meet the crease of the wrist. Too high and the shoulders hunch; too low and the user leans forward and loses balance. Loosen the knobs, slide the handles, retighten.

Loop brakes do two jobs. Squeeze the loops to slow down on a slope; push them down until they click to lock the wheels before sitting on the seat or standing up from a chair. Never sit on the seat with the brakes unlocked.

The seat is for resting, not riding. Turn around, lock both brakes, sit facing away from the direction of travel so the backrest is behind you. A rollator seat lets a user who tires easily walk farther because a rest is always available.

Good to Know Before You Buy

  • Check the handle range. 31"–36.5" suits most adults from about 5'0" to 6'2". Measure floor to wrist crease standing upright.
  • 20" seat height is standard; a shorter user may find it a little high to sit back onto. The Steel model has the same 20" seat.
  • 6" wheels are right for indoors, sidewalks, and stores. For gravel, grass, or rough paths, an 8" wheel (Bariatric model) rolls easier.
  • Light assembly: unfold, attach the backrest with two buttons, set the handle height. About five minutes.
  • Shipping: one carton by parcel, 16 lb.

Warranty

Proactive Medical covers the Protekt Aluminum Rollator frame with a limited lifetime warranty to the original purchaser against defects in materials and workmanship. Wheels, brake cables, hand grips, upholstery, and the pouch are wear items and are not covered, nor is damage from misuse.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it weigh and will it fit in my car?

13 lb. It folds side to side to about 8" thick and stands upright on its own, so it fits in most sedan trunks, back seats, and SUV cargo areas.

What is the weight capacity?

300 lb. If the user weighs more, choose the Protekt Steel (350 lb) or Bariatric (500 lb) rollator.

How do I set the handle height?

Stand upright in your usual shoes with arms relaxed at your sides. The grips should be level with the crease of your wrist. Loosen the knob on each handle, slide to that height, and retighten. Both sides must match.

How do the brakes work?

Squeeze the loop handles to slow down. Push them down until they click to lock the wheels; lift to release. Always lock both brakes before sitting on the seat.

Can I sit on it to rest?

Yes. Lock both brakes, turn around, and sit facing away from the direction you were walking, with the backrest behind you. It is a resting seat, not a transport chair; nobody should push a person sitting on it.

Is it good for outdoors?

Yes on sidewalks, paved paths, and stores. The 6" soft-grip wheels are quiet indoors and handle small cracks and thresholds. For gravel or grass, the 8" wheels on the Bariatric model do better.
